Depends. If it's something like Dai Endan or Ryuuka, it wouldn't work. But if it's something like Housenka or Gouryuuka, it would work. And it seeks by you use Scan to lock pick up an opponent chakra signature and create charka that is drawn to that chakra. Then it's put around the projectile.
