The Tsuchikage leaned back in his chair, the flow of air through the window had diminished and now he was getting uncomfortably hot, fortunately though he had finished his paperwork from the recent attacks. Yasuo sighed and rose from his desk, he looked out the window and saw that the Sun was still high in the sky, he couldn't deal with staying inside on such a searing hot day and so within the next few minutes the sage was moving through the streets of his much loved village. Yasuo strolled through the market place and picked up a few fruits for a bit of lunch later on, the entire village seemed to be in high spirits, most of the damage from the attacks had now been repaired and Yasuo was glad to see smiles back on the villager's faces.
A few minutes later the sage was walking at a liesurely pace through a less visited area of the village, he wasn't sure why he hardly ever walked this way as it was beautiful, a densely forested area with high trees and soft undergrowth. Yasuo smiled as he walked, he was searching for a nice place where he could sit and relax, the past few days had been filled with tension and stress, he felt he deserved a rest for once. As the kage walked he came to an area which was more familiar to him, a clearing in the forest with a long black wall covered in white writing, this was where the names of all those who died for Iwagakure were remembered, their names were inscribed upon the wall and it hurt Yasuo to see so many names. A young boy stood out like a sore thumb in the centre of the clearing before the wall with his shock red hair, small gasps and sharp breaths could be heard from him, indicating that he was crying. This hurt Yasuo the most, these people had families and some children were left without parents or family of any kind. The Tsuchikage himself had lost both parents to war and as he stood there watching the boy it reminded him of the times he had spent here staring at his father's and (recently) his mother's names.
Yasuo moved out from the trees and slowly walked towards the boy who quickly stopped crying and wiped his eyes before turning to see who had walked in on him. His crimson eyes snapped open with shock as he saw the Tsuchikage stood before him, he was lost for words and quickly bowed to the village leader. The sage smiled sympathetically, he knew this child; Sakumo Takahashi, a natural-born ninja with a lack of drive and ambition, recently discovered to be of the prestigious Itichi clan of Otogakure, both parents killed in an attack by unknown ninja. The young Itichi slowly raised his head to the kage who rested his hand on the boy's shoulder and sighed "It is tough and dangerous, the life of a shinobi... We are often forced to do things we don't want to do, and every second we live we put our life on the line." The kage paused "Your parents were admirable people Sakumo, I knew them well and they often spoke of you" The Itichi's eyes seemed to light up as Yasuo spoke of his parents "They wouldn't want you to live a single moment in regret or sorrow, honour their memory by living your life with joy" The Itichi nodded slowly but suddenly broke into tears again, he lifted the back of his hand to his eyes as the tears dropped to the floor. "I'm afraid, Tsuchikage-sama...I have no one to guide me and...I'm afraid that I'll become weak and that my parent's sacrifice will be in vain" Sakumo choked back his tears long enough to tell the kage something of what he was feeling.
The kage's brow creased "I know how you feel Sakumo...I remember spending much time here after my father and mother died..." The Itichi's tears stoped and he looked up to Yasuo who was now staring at the wall and one particular name "I was afraid that I would let my parents down because I too had no one to guide me" Sakumo now looked shocked at Yasuo, it seemed that the two had more in common than he could have ever thought "Eventually" The sage continued "I found a teacher and I soon became strong...Though I realised that didn't necessarily mean that I hadn't failed my parents, I knew they wouldn't be happy unless I too was happy." Yasuo looked down to Sakumo and smiled "So, Sakumo, what do you think?" The genin slowly cracked a smile, with dry eyes "Thankyou...Tsuchikage-sama" Sakumo said slowly and the kage smiled back at the youth. Suddenly the silence was shattered as the Itichi's stomach groaned loudly, Sakumo looked embarrassed as the kage burst out laughing. Yasuo reached into the bag of fruits he had bought and pulled out a shiny apple, he held it out for the Itichi to take "Sakumo, who is your teacher?" He asked as the genin reached for the fruit "I don't have one Tsuchikage-sama" Yasuo's brow creased "Well we can't be having that...How would you like to be my student?" He asked as Sakumo's hand touched the apple. The genin slowly looked up to the kage's smiling face, astounded "But there are some things you must agree to first..." Yasuo continued and raised a finger "First, you must promise to me that you'll try your best to become the best person you can be. Second, do not dwell on the past, strive to honour your parents by enjoying your life. And finally; call me Yasuo" The kage finished and looked down at the genin "Do you think you can do that Sakumo?" He asked and the Itichi slowly nodded "Okay...Yasuo" He slowly said with a shaky smile and took the apple.
The Tsuchikage grinned at the youth, he had a good feeling about this child, he knew that he was a natural genius shinobi and seemingly never had to try to achieve, but anyone could tell that just by looking over his file. No, Yasuo felt something different, something told him that this young genin would grow into a shinobi of incredible power, right now he had unlimited potential, he may even surpass the Tsuchikage some day, who knows how fast this boy would grow, after all, Yasuo surprised everyone by rising to his position at the tender age of 16, he knew not to underestimate youth. "I'm glad you accept Sakumo" He said smoothly "I have a few things to take care of back at the village, but when I am done I will send for you and we will begin your training." Sakumo's eyes widened as the sage spoke, he still seemed slightly shocked at the situation. Yasuo supposed that it wasn't surprising, he couldn't imagine how he would have reacted at 14 years old if the Tsuchikage had offered to be his sensei, Yasuo chuckled at this thought and turned away from the young genin, "Very well, We shall speak soon Sakumo" He said simply and waved a hand as he disappeared in a flurry of leaves.
