Description: Shunshin no Jutsu is a basic Ninjutsu technique. The ninja will appear and disappear in an instant, allowing them to retreat or attack suddenly. To facilitate the movement the ninja will often use nearby elements such as mist, sand or leaves to mask their appearance or disappearance. While it may seem like the user simply appeared or disappeared, the technique is actually a momentary increase in movement speed towards a set location.
OOC: Not sure of the steps in learning this technique, but I'll give it a go.
IC:
An icy wind blew through the cold air just outside of the Hidden Mist, causing Onryou to shiver. "What's with this wind" he thought, "it's colder than usual." Onryou stood from his seated position on a tree branch and hopped down. "Guess I'd better do something to warm the muscles." He unsheathed his katana and began making lazy, unpolished strikes into the cold air. "Seems as though I'll need something to offset my lack of skills with this weapon if I'm ever going to use it."
He thought back to one of his classes at the academy; a lesson in which the teacher was droning on about a kage of the hidden leaf's mythical speed. "He could drop his weapon, and be at your throat with another before you knew what was happening.", he remembered the teacher saying. Of course the kage must've known Shunshin no Jutsu, the body flicker technique.
"If I could learn that skill, I'd at least have enough speed to confuse my enemy", he pondered.
Onryou knew that if he was going to learn this skill, he would need to do some research. He sheathed his katana and walked off back towards the village, headed for the library.

(later that day)
After studying the few books there were on the topic, Onryou decided it was time to begin training. He traveled back to the spot he was at earlier, excited to test his knowledge of the new technique.
The sun was lazily fading into the horizon, so there were only a few hours left to train before he'd need to sleep.
He began by unsheathing his katana. "Now the books mentioned that chakra needed to be charged into the legs in order to provide the short boost of speed." With that thought he began to gather chakra into his legs, careful not to use to much, lest he be worn out before learning the technique. In an instant he released the pressure and burst forward about two feet before falling face first into the ground. "This is going to be difficult...."

Onryou stood back up, rubbing his face where he hit the ground. "It seems gaining the speed isn't the problem, it's maintaining and controlling it." He concentrated as he began to try again. Another instant and he was gone, this time traveling about three feet before falling. This time he noticed when he was going to fall, and stuck out his palm towards the ground. As his palm hit the ground he pushed downwards, fliping himself back up to a standing position. With a twitch he was off again, traveling the same distance and falling yet again, catching himself as he did before.
"This isn't working", he though, "I need to do something different." He calmed himself. The trees seemed to shiver in the chilling wind. Without thinking he burst into speed again, travelling three feet. "Holy crap I did it. I didn't fall." It seemed the technique needed to be used with a calm mind. "Now I need to work on distance and speed."

A few more tries with the technique, and Onryou could travel about five feet in an instant. It still seemed to him he wasn't moving fast or far enough, so he sat by a tree and began to ponder. He stilled his body and closed his eyes. The wind seemed to die down as he calmed himself. "I've got it!' he said, ending the short, silent moment.
He stood and performed a few hand seals. "Suiton: Teppoudama" he said whilst drawing a giant breath. He shot the ball of water towards a tree, and used body flicker to try and catch up with it. He rushed forward, failing in keeping up with the jutsus speed. Suddenly he stopped, seconds and feet before the ball of water burst on the tree. "Damnit", he proclaimed. "Again."
"Suiton: Teppoudama" Another bullet of water shot out of his mouth towards a tree. He quickly chased after it, improving upon his previous try but still falling short. The ball of water again burst against the tree as he came to a hault a few feet short.
"I'm getting the hang of this." He said as the sun fell beneath the horizon.

Night approached. Mist's from the many rivers and lakes eerily crept across the landscape, slowly taking over the panorama. Wind's had picked up, and were carrying a bone chilling cold. Onryou sniffled as he formed the seals again. He wrenched backwards, seeming to channel an orb of energy through his stomach. "Gotta push myself," he thought. He shot the ball from his mouth and was immediately in pursuit of it, trailing just behind.
Grasping at the cold droplets of water at the tail end of the projectile, Onryou suddenly begins to lose speed. The ball of water exponentially gains on him, smashing into the tree with such force it cracks the bark.
" I can probably only manage one more use of the Teppoudama while trying to flicker." Onryou proclaimed to himself, racking his brain for an idea. He threw a kunai and attempted the same technique a few times. Each time the kunai acted in the same manner, seeming to move slowly while he caught up, but staying just out of his reach as they flew into the bark of a tree.
"Something's gotta give..."

Onryou thought about the movement of the kunai and the projectile he noticed earlier. "It seems as if I'm missing something," he thought. Immediately after thinking this, he was distracted by a cricket's chirp. His eyes moved in the direction of the sound, and he spotted the cricket just as it jumped from it's position on the ground. Following the trajectory of the cricket, he noticed that it was on a collision path with a spider web. The cricket chirped rapidly as it was caught in the spiders trap, wrapped up in silk and bitten a single time. Slowly the chirp's faded into silence as the life-force of the cricket was drained.
"Hmm...," he thought, "What if I use the same idea in conjunction with the body flicker technique? Instead of trying to follow the object, I need to predict where it will be and be there before it."
He had seemed to come up with a good idea, and he began to follow through with it. He threw another kunai towards a tree, and followed it's movement with his eyes for a split second. Then he was off, not thinking of his movement at all but only his destination. In an instant he was in front of the tree, milliseconds before the kunai. He drew his katana in a flash and knocked the kunai out of the air.
"Well that seemed to work. Now for the real test." he proclaimed, performing hand seals for what would be his last jutsu of the day. "Suiton: Teppoudama" he shouted, and fired the ball of water from his mouth. Again he watched the trajectory, predicted its position, and was off, all of this happening almost instinctively. As he flickered past the projectile toward it's destination, he turned ubruptly and stopped, seconds before the the ball of water reached the tree. With a slash of his katana, he cut the ball of water in half. The two parts of the projectile shot off at an angle to each other, and hit two trees on either side of the targetted tree.
"I've done it," he thought, "and what's more; this technique will open many doors for me." As he thought this a grin opened under his mask. He had completed his training for the day, and thus sought shelter in the village for the night...
