Kei Ishida

As Kei walked through the dry, dusty dessert, the wind continued to blow, causing his hiori to blow in the wind like a flag mounted on a pole to landmark one's territory. His scarf, glowing red from the light reflecting off of it from the sun, blew in the wind,too. His steps were light, and cautious, he knew these parts were notorious for having vicious monsters. The dessert was a mystery to Kei, he knew not where dangers may lie in wait for him, he also knew that if it got too hot, it would evaporate his dwindling supply of water in his pouch. Kei took out a canteen, unscrewed the cap, and drank his fill from the cool, refreshing liquid.

Kei satisfied his thirst for now, he knew that his supply of water would not last him if he stayed in the desert any longer, he needed to get to his destination quickly so he could refresh his supplies.
"The wind is subsiding, but it's still way too hot!" He said as he shielded his eyes from the glow of the blinding light coming from the sun as he looked up. He felt miserable here, he wondered how the people of the sand village could survive in such a place like this, but no matter, he needed to worry about getting himself to the border of the land of fire, which his steps drew him nearer to every second. Kei's thoughts soon began to dwell upon images of ferocious beasts that might be hidden from his view in the sand, and ever so quietly, and without hesitation, Kei drew his blade. His katana-it's shining blade catching the light from the sun, and the cotton straps around it's hilt increasing Kei's grip-made him feel at ease, and comfortable, he knew he could defend himself very well with a blade in case a large scorpion or dessert spider tried to make him it's next meal.

As he walked onward towards the ever nearing border of the land of fire, Kei felt that he was being watched, or even worse, stalked by some unseen creature or being. He scanned the sand with his eyes, his glowing red eyes that reflected the light from the sun, and searched for any sign of a form that might belong to a person...Or a creature. As he searched, he did manage to notice an unusual mound of sand,"A dune..?" He thought to himself, but if it was, where were the other dunes? And in what way was it created? It seemed very fishy to him, that a lone dune in the middle of the desert would just appear out of thin air. Kei-curiosity getting the best of him-walked up to the dune, and examined it with his blade, poking it and stabbing it. After stabbing it several times, he decided that it was a dune after all, and not some creature hiding it's presence to try to ambush it's prey.

Kei began to walk away when he noticed a small lump on the dune began to move, and a shining, black orb revealed it's self to Kei's sight. "Wha-?" Kei began to say when he noticed the black orb "Blinked." He jumped back, swiftly like a fox avoiding a large foe, and as he did, the mound lunged forward, revealing a large dessert spider. "No way...Just my luck!" He said to himself wearily, he hated spiders, he hated spiders more than hell it's self. The spider exposed it's large, protruding, black fangs to Kei. they were dripping with a clear, liquid that seemed to be excreting from the mouth of the beast, this began to worry Kei, he didn't know wether that was drool, or an excutiatingly painful venom, or both.

The large spider rushed it's self at Kei with such fury and hunger, but Kei had no idea why this thing would be angry at him, or why it would try to devour him. He pulled out three shuriken from his pouch and leapt backwards, as he leapt backwards he threw the three shuriken at the ferocious beast while it rampaged towards him. The small weapons had no effect upon the beast, as it's exoskeleton was to hard to be pierced by such novice pieces of weaponry. Kei had to take new measures to try to defeat the drooling, ferocious beast, who made it's pace even quicker to reach it's prey faster. Kei needed to find a way to get the spider to lose it's target (himself), leaving Kei a better chance to attack, but he needed to run, he wouldn't get anywhere standing still. The spider drew upon Kei fast, and raised it's appendages above him to make a killing strike, Kei saw through this move, and jumped back performing a summersault, landing on his hand, and continuing to avoid the spider's ravaging attacks by doing back handsprings.

The spider was far enough away from Kei to let him use one of his smoke bombs, which he popped out of his pouch and threw onto the hard shell of the beast, causing the bomb to explode and blind the spider with an opaque smoke. The spider lost sight of Kei, and begin to flail it's appendages around furiously to try and find Kei. Kei, on the other hand, began to make his way around the spider to it's rear, he knew the abdomen of the spider was weak on the underside, and that was where it's entrails were kept. With a fast and sharp movement, Kei plunged his blade into the underside of the spider's abdomen, causing it to writhe in pain. It knocked Kei backwards with a powerful swing with one of it's hind legs.

Kei rolled on the ground from the force the spider produced from it's powerful blow. He quickly found his footing and stood back up to reclaim lost ground. The spider was searching viciously for Kei, it's mind wanting to destroy him now, not even thinking about it's ravaging hunger. Kei looked at it's hind quarters and noticed it's body fluids were spraying out from the gash Kei gave it with the blade of his katana, and he realized that it would bleed to death from the incision that he gave the large spider. It warbled around, and quickly found Kei again, and it began it's furious charge at it's opponent. Kei stood his ground, he noticed that the spider was having a difficult time trying to keep a straight path as it charged at him.

By the time it reached Kei, the wound it had severely weakened it to the point of collapse, and the inertia of it's dash caused the spider's body to slide forward. Kei jumped up on the spider's back, and jumped again to gain more distance from the spider. When he landed, he looked back at the large dessert beast, and noticed it would no longer move. He walked up to the spider and kicked it with tremendous force, still it did not move. Kei walked around to it's head and examined it's eyes, all eight of them were glazed over white, he knew that he had killed the spider, and he sheathed his blade with triumph, he conquered his first beast.
He took one of the fangs and pulled it off it's body, he could probably receive a reward for slaying such a tremendous beast, and he tied it with a piece of lace he had found lying around, and slung it over his shoulder.

Kei continued to make his way towards the border, the wind picking up his hiori and scarf, causing them to blow in the wind like a flag blowing in the wind.

Kei walked on, His steps growing weary, he was growing desperately dehidrated from the heat of the sun beating down upon him. His breathing pattern began to grow heavy, this dehydration was wearing him out, along with the battle that ensued just a while ago with the giant spider. "man, the heat is killing me." He thought to himself as he slumped forward, slouching as he walked, his water supply had been depleted from walking in the dessert for so long. The sun had heated the sand up with it's powerful rays, causing Kei to burn his toes if he dug his feet too deep into the sand.

The dessert grew too tiresome for Kei, as well as dangerous, he could die from dehydration, or even worse, he could be eaten alive by some horrid creature who might thing Kei looked weak enough to be prey. As he walked, he noticed huge birds were circling overhead, these were obviously some sort of buzzard. "Damn birds, sheesh!I'm not dead yet.." He said aloud, prtially to himself, and to the birds that continued to perform their pre-meal ritual of circling.

"Jeeze...I need water.." Kei said as he looked around, maybe he could see some sort of veggitation off in the distance if he scanned the horizon. But all of this was in vain, he hadn't seen any form of life besides the large spider and the vultures. He began to feel the ominous grip of depression, the thought of having no water, and being ravaged by some random animal loomed in his mind. But he still had hope, he knew he would reach the border soon enough, then he could replenish his thirst to hydrate himself.

Kei continued to walk through the barren dessert of the wind country, he began to spout curses toward the land as he marched through the wasteland like a zombie on a rampage. But no amount of cursing was going to make it any cooler for him in this dry patch of dirt. Surely he was getting closer to the border, might he had accidentally turned around, otherwise he would have reached the border by now, maybe he had turned around? It had been hours since Kei took a break, and that was before his supply of water had reached it's end, and way before the spider slaughter, and the heat was getting to Kei in such ways that he began to see random shapes in the horizon, many of which looked to be serpents or boats.

oh man...I'm going crazy...I'm literally going crazy... He thought to himself, for once in his life his mind had not been raging back and forth between certain thoughts, and had at last given him peace and quiet, but ironically during his time of woe. He drug his feet rather tiresome through the hot sand, the pain was no longer able to be felt by him as he did, he could only feel the ever growing dryness in his throat that signatured his thirst. I've got to press on...If I stop, I won't make it...And the birds'll be picking the meat off my bones.. He said to his mind again, he knew if he kept telling his mind to keep on, it would listen to him to eventually get him to a water source. The only thing that bothered him was the thought of another monster attack, if he were targeted now, he was a gonner, he had no more chakra left in him, or at least the energy to perform ertain tasks that required chakra.

After a long time of sliding himself through the dessert, he began to sense changes of moisture in the air, it was no longer the hot, dryness of the sand, it was the smell of fresh dirt after a long downpour. Surely water! He thought amongst himself again, he was certain he was close by a river or oasis. After quickening his pace from a shuffle to a stride, Kei made his way in the direction the smell of moisture came the strongest, until eventually he began to see greenery in the distance. "THE BORDER!!" He shout out to himself, he was relieved to have finally reached his destination, a sense of accomplishment came over him.

When Kei finally reached the outskirts of the border, he could hear the rushing of water, surely it had rained, for the brook which separated the two nations was but a trickling stream. Sure enough Kei made it to the edge of the brook, it was full of water from a previous downpour, and about waist high from rain water. "Oh my! such a dream come true!indeed a miracle!" He said to himself with joy, he was finally able to take a break from his long and tiresome journey. Kei removed his scarf, followed by the unraveling of his other scarf, and the removal of his hiori and the top of his outfit, then his shoes. He placed all of his items on a patch of green grass on the edge of the brook, and dived right into the water.

As he submerged into the water, a refreshing feeling of hope and relaxation overcame him, he had made it another day by himself, luckily nothing had followed him into the brook, otherwise he'd be in a vulnerable state, and would have to find a way to escape his haven. Kei thought to himself as he emerged from the stream and sat on the edge of the brook, filling his canteen, and then letting his feet soak in the cool water. I wonder... Kei looked towards the barren wasteland that was the dessert,...If my mental strength could improve while making another trek through the dessert? He looked at his body, it was strong, fit, and lean, surely such a strong body could help his mind become stronger. The brain is a tool for the mind, and just another muscle for the body, if he strengthened his mind, his brain would grow stronger, thus expanding his mind to further and more straining practices.

Kei chugged all the water from his canteen, his thirst was unbearable from not being able to quench it for such a long time. He then pulled himself up onto the bank and set his shoes back on, followed afterwards by his top, his hiori, and then his scarves. After attaching his pouches to his garb, he then took his canteen and filled it back with water, afterwards he took a big swig and looked back at the dessert. He gazed out into the barren plain as it's howling winds continued to blow through.

Kei looked at his simple, tin canister which held his supply of water, and thought while he gazed on the manmade, tin creation. It's cap had not yet been applied for it was still in his left hand, and then he looked out at the dessert again. He began to understand his train of thought he had earlier while he swam in the stream, and then he tilted his canteen, and emptied it's contents. My mind is weak, therefore I must strive to make it stronger! Determined, Kei clenched his fist containing the cap and screwed it on the canteen, he then tied it back onto his obi and set off for the howling wasteland. His new goal: To reach Sunagakure. If he made it to the gates, his mind would be improved one step further to becoming a great and powerful ninja.

IC: As Kei walked through the dessert again, he felt his mind growing stronger by the second, and to his luck he had not encountered any foes on his way to the sand village. "I've finally been given a break." He said to himself, he looked up in the sky, there were no buzzards tracking his near death scent, that was good, he needn't worry about wild animals...For now at least.

At long last, Kei could see the cliffs that formed the front gates of the Sunagakure off in the horizon, he had finally made his journey complete, but as to what he would do in the village? who knows?
