The Perfect Flaw

He ran, jumping from tree to tree. Left. Right. Left. Right. His feet padded against the hard bark, his mind far away as his body moved forward. This was a stupid dare. Everybody knew that the Forest of Death wasn't really deadly at all, it was just a stupid name. He yawned and cracked his knuckles, all he had to do was take a little treasure that a chuunin had left for him and bring it back to his group of friends, who were all probably scared like crazy, sitting together outside the forest, waiting for him to come back, afraid that he wouldn't. He tripped and fell as his mind drifted. His body plummeted to the ground as his life rushed before his eyes.

His arm hurt. Was he dead? Could somebody's arm hurt when they were dead? Did the body still register pain when the mind was gone? No. No, it couldn't be, it just didn't make sense. He still felt airborne though. Maybe it was just an ache... But no, now his fingers were hurting to. And bleeding a bit. The warm blood trickled down up his sleeve. Up? That was odd... Usually blood ran down, just like everything else. Maybe his death made things reverse? Could that happen? Was this a new world? A new dimension? He felt the blood reach his shoulder and suddenly he was falling again. He hit the ground, not to hard, his left hand aching from the cuts it had sustained when it grabbed the branch.

Now he was aching all over, bruises started to form under his skin. But he was definitely alive. He felt hot, damp air on the top of his head though. That was odd... The rest of his body was freezing. It got so cold out here... He shrugged off the thought and sat up to examine his injuries. All of a sudden he heard a wolf roar loudly behind him, specks of its saliva hit him as he stared at it, paralyzed with fear. Wolves didn't reside in the Forest... Did they? Well they must. Or, at least, one must. No. It was more. He heard them howl back and the sound of the silent pads of the wolves' feet.

He felt the first wolf circling him. He stood, still paralyzed, as the rest of the wolves came to watch him, the prey, and the predator, playing with its food. "S-stay back" he managed to mumble out. The wolf probably didn't even hear him as it circle him, probably looking for the best place to dig its savage teeth into. Suddenly he felt a surge of strength and will and his hand lunged at the wolf, forming itself into a fist on the way there. It was feeble really, he hadn't even thought about using a weapon. The wolf dodged it easily and he fell over. Suddenly they were on him, all at once, ripping and tearing, first at his clothing, then at his mangled, lifeless form.
