Pets do not take up character slots. They are considered a Battle Item.

Since when? I know they used to take up jutsu slots when training them, And I know you used to be un able to have a pet nin, when you were bloodline, but so many things have changed about it.

Pet-nin have never taken up Chara Slots.

Not Chara, Jutsu, as in an E-rank with a Pet nin, would have to spread their remaining 5 slots with their pet somehow.

yeah I remember that. I ended up not teaching my pet anything and working on Amegaki by himself. But now they don't take anything, you just need to have the SA to use them.
