what is genjutsu
Genjutsu are techniques that use the chakra in the victim's nervous system to create illusions; basically an advanced intellectual ninjutsu. Those with special abilities like the Uchiha clan's Sharingan or those with high intelligence have an easier time executing and countering genjutsu, since attention to detail is key. The most commonly seen genjutsu is the simple creation of phantasms – causing the targeted person(s) to hear, see, smell, taste and/or feel sensations that are not actually there in order to manipulate them. In other words, genjutsu affects the five senses, though other applications of genjutsu exist. Those under the influence of genjutsu either freeze in place or lose consciousness, depending on how capable they are in recognizing and defending against it.
not only does it change what the target is seeing, feeling, smelling, hearing ,and tasting, but can loose complete awareness of there original surrounding in the first place. along with several different metal pains. some of these can lead to trauma and physical fatigue.
Talented Genjutsu users
genjutsu users of extremely high level of skill also may have the ability of combining several genjutsu's at a time to make a stronger and more realistic effect thou, this also requires a large amount of chakra and concentration. so if you can locate the genjutsu user some how and make a accurate attack the genjutsu will be broken because they loose concentration and cant focus the chakra properly along with this.
Using Genjutsu in a RP
As said before Genjutsu is much more complex than taijutsu or ninjutsu. Is mental, not physical, so when in an RP and genjutsu arises it's never a matter of simply being hit, or avoiding it. There are several factors, and steps needed to be taken into consideration when approached by, or using genjutsu.
When using a genjutsu you want to fully understand the genjutsu. This means its very effect, how it works.
When being inflicted with genjutsu you must understand it. Your character must be good with genjutsu, or has experienced it before. This determines your level of skill with genjutsu. Now certain genjutsu, ones that effect your five senses are usually broken with Genjutsu kai. There is rarely any other way to break these genjutsu, however there are genjutsu that can bind the body, or mind. Genjutsu that does not affect the five senses usually must be broken with mental strength, or being touched. If the mind is unable to realize that a genjutsu is being used its usually harder to escape it, however if your able to know a genjutsu is being inflicted then you would be able to understand it, and escape from it, usually by inflicting pain upon yourself, or being touched.
Levels and experience
There are something that should be kept in mind when applying genjutsu to RPs. A person levels, experience, and strengths. A jounin is automatically skilled with genjutsu, seeing as how jounins are shinobi skilled in every art of the ninja, however in profiles people will often put genjutsu as a strength. A shinobi with this, and a regular shinobi, both jounin rank are very different. A chuunin whom has had more experience with genjutsu can match a jounin with little experience with it. Two jounin of equal levels may not fall for each other's genjutsu, depending on the genjutsu, however a jounin whom is more skilled with genjutsu could fool another jounin with a technique.
Basically two shinobi of equal ranks and levels cannot fool each other with genjutsu, easily. When used skillfully anyone can be fooled with genjutsu. Seeing a genjutsu more than once gives you an edge, allowing a genjutsu to be easy to break from. However shinobi of different levels and ranks usually falls for the higher ranking genjutsu.
If you encounter the same genjutsu twice its usually unable to affect you a second time, however this isn't always the case.
Genjutsu Kai
genjutsu releases is not strong enough to dispel every genjutsu so if Zieg or I or some other very talented genjutsu user uses a B ranked or higher level genjutsu you cant get out of it instantly. if you try it you cause harm to your self. thou if your a jounin you can dispel up to a B ranked jutsu with it if your a jounin who specializes in Genjutsu then a ranked possibly a S ranked if he is extremely skilled.
if Genjutsu Kai fails, someone outside the Genjutsu can inject their chakra into your own chakra network in order to dispel it. Sakura does this to Naruto when Team Kakashi and Chiyo fight Itachi's perfect clone thing.
Remember these rules when RPing with genjutsu.
