Shu sat on an immense sand dune just outside the village gate. He was holding his tanto and spinning it in the air. Once in the while it would get close to falling towards him and Shu would kick his way up the dune to avoid it. He wasn't the best at twirling the tanto but he has had lots of practice. Currently he was spacing out staring past towards the village gate where there was a cart filled with war supplies now heading through it. The cart was drawn by two horses and they made it look like the cart held something very heavy, but Shu was really just interested in the horses. He rarely sees horses and he has curiosity about them. Like how they could pull so much weight without getting tired. Or how they could run longer than he could. Every once in a while he would catch a rare sight of a horse and ask its master for a race. Shu won only about a fourth of the time as he didn't usually challenge work horses. While Shu was spaced out the tanto flipped weirdly in the air, missed his hand, and landed quivering in the sand close enough to completely scare Shu witless. He screamed and jumped back then fell over the sand dune and landed with the upper half of his body caught in the dune.
Looking out from the village you could see two legs kicking wildly out of the sand. Then Shu wiggled his way out of the sand and stood up again. He climbed back over the dune to look for his tanto. It was seen about halfway down still quivering slightly in the sand. Shu reached down and picked it up. Then he brushed himself off. A cloud of sand came up and made him cough. "Sometimes I hate sand." Shu walked off after that little monologue to find someone to play with.
