The new ranking system gives us more realistic strength rankings by separating a character's title and actual combat strength. Now, all characters will start as E-rank Genin. Progressing through ranks will be similar to how it was in the past, but progressing through titles (genin, chuunin and jounin) will now be done only through exams and at the discretion of your village's Kage.

The ranks are E, D, C, B, A and S; there is also a special SS rank that cannot be obtained normally.

There are several ways to advance in rank:

Rank training.
It remained the same as it was with the previous ranking system, except now you don't gain a new title when you rank train and you can rank train twice. For those unfamiliar with this concept, it must be a topic of good quality in which you can simply train your character, fight some NPCs and push them over their limit, provide some good character development etc., in other words, anything and everything that expands on your character. For a rank training to succeed, you must gain 5 points, awarded by moderators, without leaving the topic. If you do leave the topic without gaining 5 points, you'll have to restart it from 0 later. It is a good idea to add the [Rank Training] tag into the topic's title so moderators will know it needs to be graded.
Note that you cannot do rank training and jutsu training at the same time. It means you can do it in the same topic, but one post can only count towards one or the other, not both. This actually goes for all kinds of training: none of them can be combined into training for any two things at once.
Exams.
Chuunin and jounin exams are a common way to advance in rank, but note that they're focused around gaining a new title. A genin can only participate in chuunin exams, and a chuunin can only participate in jounin exams. A genin of E or D rank will advance one rank if he successfully passes the chuunin exams, but a genin of a C or higher rank will only gain a new title. A chuunin of C or B rank will advance one rank if he successfully passes the jounin exams, and a chuunin of E or D rank will advance two ranks if he successfully passes the jounin exams, but a chuunin of A or higher rank will only gain a new title.
Note that the above statements refer to global exams, held by the staff for all villages, only.
RPG events held by the administration can earn you a rank advancement if you display good RP skill and use your character to the fullest. Just like the exams, this only refers to global events. Events limited by village or some other OOC factor, whoever holds them, won't give you a new rank.

For ease of understanding, E and D rank can be roughly equaled to genin level, C and B to chuunin level, A and S to jounin level and SS to Kage level.

This does not mean that you need a certain rank to achieve a certain title or vice versa, this is simply for convenience when comparing with canon.

When replacing a dead character, your new one may start at two ranks and one title below the deceased one; you may start lower than that, but not higher. If the character was killed in battle, you may apply to get one third the jutsus they had on a new character, not counting the basics. This means they can start with some jutsus learned. The amount is one third of the deceased character's learned jutsu besides basics, and the rank is average of the jutsu they had, both rounded down.[align=justify]
