Although she was supposed to go shopping for some necessities, Ellen took a relatively large detour. The reason was very very simple: she had no money, and not just not enough, but none at all. Since there was no going around it, she was left with no option but to go and complete a quick mission of a low rank. It was probably shameful for a jounin to go out on a D rank, but the thing is, she couldn't care less about her reputation as a shinobi of the village. She was just looking for a quick way to earn a little money so she could at least buy some food, and that was all there was to it. Of the several "chore-level" tasks, she picked one that seemed the quickest and appealed to her the most: gathering medicinal herbs. Once she would find the ones she was asked to pick, she would be able to follow them by scent and be done with it quickly. The task was way too easy for Ellen's liking, since she was just supposed to carefully gather a full basket of the correct herbs while she preferred something with a little more action. It wasn't as simple as she expected though, as she quickly realized that for every kind of herb she needed to pick, there was at least one that looked almost the same but entirely different in nature. Luckily, she was able to distinguish the plants by more than just sight and touch, which would require her to examine every plant that looked like something she needed before either taking or leaving it. But her sense of smell was strong enough that she could tell which plants were the right ones and which were the wrong after just sampling the ones she normally identified as the correct once, without having to even bend down to smell them. Truly, it was a lot of help. Although barely requiring any effort on her part at all, and severely hastened by her special abilities, the task was still extremely time-consuming. It was probably meant to keep a shinobi occupied from dawn to sundown, and since combat skill wasn't a factor, it was almost the same for her as for any genin. The basket that at first seemed rather small soon turned out to be actually quite big, and as the sun leisurely made its way across the sky, Ellen finally realized that it was, in fact, huge, capable of holding at least twenty pounds of herbs without even them being pressed down. Is it just me, or the other baskets they had were much smaller? They were probably mocking me because I was taking a newbie genin mission, being a jounin. Well, whatever, at least it will be of more help than an average completion of this task. Although it does kinda rub me the wrong way, I'll be able to say "in your face" when I fill this extra large container is less time than even the fastest guys fill average ones, and with not a single weed. Unfortunately, once Ellen gave in to talking to herself about various things out of sheer boredom, she could no longer stop. The solitary gathering of herbs was going to drive her insane with its tediousness and lack of excitement, no matter how much she tried to convince herself otherwise. It, that being talking to herself, wouldn't be so bad, but it inevitably caused her to start thinking deeply about some serious matters that needed her attention, and this slowed her down a lot. But what should I do about that whole hunger deal? I have no idea what exactly happened at that time, but one thing is certain: I ate a large part of that person. An additional, although lesser, worry was that the marks left on that body were not those that could be left by a human. After that time, Ellen had a pretty good idea what happened to her: her clan's transformation abilities were replaced by a strange animal, fox to be precise, transformation that she didn't seem to be in complete control of. Suddenly, an idea came to her mind, but she decided to finish gathering the herbs before trying anything out. Despite trying to focus on completing her task quickly, Ellen was still mostly distracted by her thoughts. However, she still able to finish it before dusk, which wasn't anything to be proud of since there was still shopping to be done, and then she would have to do some work at home. Of course, there was no guarantee that Caleb would return that day, or even the next one, but if he did, she wanted to be ready for him. When the massive basket was finally filled to the brim, the girl sighed deeply, preparing herself for anything that could probably happen as she triggered her transformation ability. But unlike the previous times, when she tried to suppress it or just grasp it, she turned it the other way, being able to see and feel as her body's shape changed drastically. When the transformation was complete, she looked herself over to find a large humanoid fox beast. No way... I'm a werewolf?! Such things exist?! Needless to say, the end result of her transformation was rather shocking. Well, there's no point in wasting any more time here. I need to get home soon. Her mind still occupied by the discovery about herself she just made, Ellen hastily made her way back to Konoha. She didn't say anything and completely ignored all the witty and insulting remarks that were thrown her way by other shinobi, not because she was such a nice or collected person normally, but because there were some heavy things on her mind. Although at first she was close to another nervous breakdown, knowing for sure that she was no longer human but some kind of monster, she quickly came to one conclusion: just because she now knew, at least to some degree, what she was, didn't mean she was any different from the day before. It certainly didn't make things worse, and on the contrary, at least now she could deal with everything about herself a bit better. Taking her reward for the mission, she began to cruise around the village, looking for various stores that could sell the things she wanted to buy.
