Azurei

Azurei sat in front of the fire that he had made, the flames flickering and shining a crimson hue over the circle. He stared into the flames, watching as they whipped to and from, unhindered and uncontrollable, something he used to be. He turned the wooden stick that was residing in his hand, the piece of meat on the end rotating for an even cooking. It hadn't been too long since he had eaten but he was indeed hungry and couldn't wait for his belly to be satisfied.

Azurei then looked up and glanced past the fire, watching as Karina's eyes shone with a sparkle in them from the fire. She was deep in thought from what he could tell, probably reflecting on her past and trying to figure out her future. It was a sudden and blind decision she had made to join him on his journey but if she felt it was right, he would be content to keep her. He didn't know what she would gain from this but he enjoyed company, not questioning her about it because it was irrelevant at the time. He didn't want to pry directly into her life so he would start with small talk, just to test the water and get to know her more.

"Karina, you understand I made the decision to allow you to travel with me without knowing hardly anything about you. I'm okay with that, whatever is in your past is none of my business and I won't pry. However, I would like to know why you are so silent? You can talk to me Karina." Azurei said, just trying to find out more about her without making her have to go into detail. He truly didn't want to offend her, exactly the opposite, he wanted her to trust him and for him to be able to trust her.

Karina

Karina stood in the center of her living room, the lump in her throat lodged and unable to move as she stood there. She looked down upon the scene of her brother and mother, soaking in their own blood and in ripped and torn clothes, decimated. She couldn't look away but couldn't stand to see this any longer either, the tears beginning to roll down her face as her heart and world were ripped apart. She saw her brother's chest rise, a sign of life that she hoped for and received. She rushed over to him as he coughed blood from his mouth, his eyes shaky and unable to focus but she could tell he was looking at her. "Karina....."

Karina snapped back to reality, making no movements what so ever, stunned as usually from the visions. It was then that she realized Azurei was talking to her, feeling slightly guilty for not listening but also not obliged to respond. She still hadn't gotten his whole personality and didn't know much of him but she had still made the rash decision to travel with him. As she listened to what he was saying she thought he would ask about her past, her face growing stern and agitated, but he didn't. Instead, he was content with the fact that she hadn't discussed it, which reassured her and also made her slightly happy.

Why was she so silent? It was a question she could hardly answer without having to go into detail. "I'm silent because I choose to be, it suits me." she said, in a nonchalant voice, not wanting to offend him but still being blunt in her answer. She then decided to ask him about something she had been wondering about, seeing if he would answer. "If your a prophet who do you worship, and why do need religion anyways?" She asked, slightly offensive but unintentionally, he was doing her a favor by letting her tag along.

Azurei

He didn't exactly know why Karina was being so defensive but he did somehow understand what she meant. It suits her because something in her past made that suit her, whether it be something good or bad, that is the case. Azurei knew his place at the moment and reconciled himself to leaving the question where it stood. The task was hard but he was a willful guy and he knew how to hold back from temptation when he knew it was for the best. He wouldn't ask any further into it but he still had thoughts bouncing around in his head, wondering whether foul deeds soak Karina's past or did she simply turn out this way coincidentally.

Azurei figured this would turn into a game, a test too see who trusted whom more and if they were comfortable enough to relinquish their secrets. If Karina had been smart, she would have asked a more remote question, not one that could be so openly discussed and was quite public. "I am The Keeper of the Fire Sky. I do not necessarily worship but I do give thanks and blessings towards the Sky Dragon..." Azurei said, giving a pause to see if she would respond to what most people would think a ridiculous notion.

He continued on when he knew she would say nothing, definitely staying true to her answer that silence suits her. Focusing back on the topic, he continued on with his explanation of his religion and belief system that Karina seemed interested in. "I do not need religion but I can't say that im not glad to have it. I was enlightened on a near perfect day by a spectacle that has yet to be rivaled in travels." Azurei said, recalling back to the day on the hills where he first witnessed the Sky Dragon.

Azurei looked down once more at the flickering fire, the flame slightly smaller as its fury consumed the wood given to it. He brought his stick away from the fire, his meat now evenly cooked and ready to be eaten. He was indeed hungry and bit into almost greedily before he regained his composure. Not only was something like that not of his nature, but he was also in the presence of a female, where such grotesque manners were unwelcome. He slowly ate away at his morsel of food as he waited for Karina to comment on his explanation.

Karina

Karina wasn't sure whether Azurei would answer her question or not, thinking that she had delved to deep into personal matters. He had simply asked her an aspect of her personality yet she may have inadvertently insulted his religion or belief, whatever it may be. She felt slightly bad then, thinking she may have offended him but then was relieved when he continued to speak and answer her question. He wasn't very in depth about anything but Karina got the point of what he was saying, just giving her the bare facts to satisfy her question. She was okay with that type of answer, she didn't want a whole seminar or lecture about it so maybe she was slightly grateful as well.

Karina thought on Azurei for a second, sort of inspecting what he said and thinking about his religion slightly more. He didn't worship the Sky Dragon, but he did give thanks and blessings toward it, which meant it wasn't really a God of sorts. She could understand that, at least she thought she could, not knowing there was even a religion based around dragons but oh well. She figured whatever he believed he could believe and it was none of her business really what he decided to do. For a moment she thought about what this Sky Dragon might look like but then she wondered if it was even real and if so has it even been seen. She wasn't going to ask but she would like to find out some day.

Thinking to ask another question, Karina thought slightly about what she wanted to find out about Azurei. She got her question soon after, knowing that Azurei was quite hungry and was ready to scarf down his meat but reclined himself to eating slowly and with mannerism. It was weird to see someone so content to just not give into instinct and with such a strong will to hold back from primal instincts.

He must of had intense training or something to have developed such a strong will. Karina thought, wanting to know why or how that happened. "Alright, I have another question if that's okay. How have you trained yourself to have such a strong will? I just saw what you did with your meat, not really an easy thing to do to hold back instinct." Karina said, looking at her own meat that was still slightly undone. She was growing hungry and couldn't wait to bite into it.

Azurei

Azurei looked at the stick that was holding his meat, that list bite of food ready to be consumed. He finished it off and then set the stick down on the ground next to him, not sure whether he would need it later or not. Then he picked it back up, realizing that if he was finished using it for eating he could use it to help sustain the fire. Azurei broke the stick into 4 smaller pieces, each relatively the same size and then tossed them lightly into the flame, watching as the fire crackled in excitement. Happy with the thought that the fire might last the night, he turned his head back toward Karina, giving her his full attention now so that he could hear what she had to say.

Azurei smiled at Karina's question towards his will, pleased that she noticed the act and was observant of her surroundings. It was a key skill needed in being a ninja, the ability to perceive and detect the movements and actions around you. Closing his eyes for a moment, Azurei tried to focus on how he would answer this question without bringing up bad memories of his past. He didn't really feel he should keep his past hidden from Karina, it was merely that to re-live the events were very hard on him. After a moment or so he felt he had a sufficient answer that would explain without dwelling too much on what needn't be brought up.

"In my past I had to deal with certain emotions that could be considered reckless. I had to learn how to control myself, a task that's not easy. I would place food all around me yet starve myself, hop in freezing cold waters but refuse to get out, and I even let people put me under genjutsu just so I could attempt to break them." Azurei said, giving a thorough but brief background on his few tasks taken to gain the willpower he now has. It was a tough process to be able to control his anger and rage after his friends deaths, yet he learned how to tame it or at least bury it inside. To bury your emotions deep down wasn't really a good thing but he could never actually rid himself of it, the emotion to rooted into his heart.

Karina

Karina pulled her stick out of the fire, the heat from it having fully cooked her meat and she was all too ready to fill her stomach. She waited a moment, only a moment, for her meat to cool down before she bit into it, a large bite to satisfy her hunger. The food slightly burnt her tongue but she showed no signs of it, too hungry to let a little nuisance ruin her meal. After the first few bites she slowed her eating pace, content with savoring the rest of it now that she was sated. It had been a while since she had eaten meat, usually having a mixture of vegetables and salvaged fruits for meals. Traveling was a rough experience for those without the proper amount of money, like Azurei and herself for instance.

Karina listened to Azurei's tale of how he gained such willpower and was quite intrigued by it. She wouldn't have guessed him to be the type to go to such extremes and for such reasons as well. Technically, she hardly knew Azurei but by his persona, it was just something unexpected. She thought back on when he said he had certain emotions that could be reckless and wondered what he meant by that. She decided that she would leave the point alone, thinking that they had talked to each other quite enough for one night and Karina was indeed looking forward to some sleep. She was weary from their travels and wanted to get some long awaited rest.

As Karina got up and made her way over to some blankets she had laid out for her bed, she realized she was slowly starting to like Azurei. He was honest with her from what she could tell even though he kept a few things back, what he said was true. He was slowly gaining her trust too, something that was rarely, if ever gained by people. Karina was happy that she had made the decision to travel with Azurei, a bond forming between them that would make their travels easier and more enjoyable at the same time. She laid down on the blankets, covering herself up with 2 on top while keeping another 2 beneath her as she closed her eyes. "Goodnight Azurei" Karina said as she slowly drifted off into sleep.
