PostPosted: Thu May 28, 2009 11:25 am    Post subject: Fame & Missing-nin System Reply with quote

The fame system is pretty easy in concept and its name is self-explanatory: it measures how renowned your character is, although it doesn't show whether they are looked up to or hated, that part is taken care of by the reputation system. Fame isn't particularly important for village shinobi, but it is the basis for the missing-nin system. Every missing shinobi's class, as shown in the bingo books, depends solely on their fame.

Missing-nin Classes

Any shinobi without a village is considered a missing-nin. They may try and join a village to stop being missing-nin, but that does not guarantee that they will not still be hunted by some authorities. Additionally, they may just be captured when trying to join a village.

  • E-Class: 0 Fame and up
No missing-nin can go below this wanted class. However, "wanted" would be saying too much, since nobody even knows of this person's existence.
  • D-Class: 100 Fame and up
Missing ninja of this class are not exactly wanted yet, however, the authorities are aware of their existence. They are classified as "minimal threat".
  • C-Class: 500 Fame and up
These are run-of-the-mill missing-nin. Capturing or disposing of them is encouraged by the authorities, but they aren't exactly looked at as serious threats or hunted specifically.
  • B-Class: 1500 Fame and up
This is where things start getting serious. Missing-nin of this level are considered to be dangerous, and rewards are offered for the capture or murder of these criminals. Hunter groups are sometimes assembled to track them down.
  • A-Class: 4000 Fame and up
The highest ordinary class of missing-nin, these are referred to as very dangerous. Their wanted status is usually Kill On Sight, and high rewards are offered to whoever can bring them in or take them down.
  • S-Class: 5000 Fame and up, must have conducted a serious crime against a shinobi village
This class is "awarded" to only the most dangerous missing-nin, whose acts of villainy are unforgivable. Special task forces may be assembled to take such people down.

Fame System

All characters have a certain amount of Fame that shows their renown in the world. It's purpose for missing-nin is to define their class (as given in the list above), while for the rest it is just a general characteristic of no severe consequence. Every character starts at 0 Fame and works their way up. This is what effects Fame has for shinobi (obviously, village-related effects cannot apply to missing-nin):

  • 0 Fame: This person is a nobody. It could be a genin who just graduated or someone whose previous accomplishments were mediocre at best. Only someone they met personally would know them.
  • 200 Fame: This person is known of in their village. People from the village have heard of you, but that's about it.
  • 400 Fame: This person is known about in their village. At this point, you may get an alias you wish to be known by.
  • 700 Fame: This person is known in their village. People from the village might be talking about you, but it isn't to the point where the know it's you yet.
  • 1000 Fame: This person is rather well-known in their village. Others from the same village may recognize you, and they likely heard of your deeds, if any.
  • 1600 Fame: This person is well-known in their village. Most people from your village know your name and what you look like. There might be gossip going around about you.
  • 2000 Fame: This person is famous in their village, and known of in other shinobi villages. There is most likely not a single person in the village who hadn't heard of you or doesn't know what you look like. People in other shinobi villages have heard of you, but they don't know any serious details.
  • 3000 Fame: This person is known in all shinobi villages. People from the other villages likely heard of you and your accomplishments, and they probably know what you look like, or at least some distinctive features.
  • 4000 Fame: This person is well-known in all shinobi villages and known of throughout the world. People from other villages most likely know who you are, what your name is and what you look like. Other people have heard of you.
  • 7000 Fame: This person is well-known throughout the world. Most people would know who you are when they see you.
  • 10000 Fame: This person is famous throughout the world. There is probably not a single person who doesn't know who you are.

As you can see, Fame does not do anything real for anyone, however, it may affect how people will react to you. For example, a shinobi with 3500 Fame can be recognized by ninja from other villages or missing-nin, but they will most likely just know their alias (if any), and not necessarily their name. On the other hand, a person with a Fame of over 9000 will likely be instantly recognized, although it still doesn't mean people would know their real name, and some of their abilities may be vaguely known: for example, it is known that Copy Ninja Kakashi has the Sharingan. It doesn't mean the Sharingan's actual abilities are known; another example, Tsunade is known as a legendary sannin and great medical ninja, but her actual skills are still hidden from the world.
In other words, when you meet someone with high fame, it is an excuse to use a little bit of what is normally considered OOC knowledge.

There are several ways to gain Fame:

  • Completeing Missions - the most usual and simple way to gain Fame. Different missions give different amounts depending on their dificulty and importance. Failed missions do not give you any Fame.
  • Passing Chuunin Exams - this only gives you Fame if you succeed and become a chuunin. It gives you 150 Fame if you had less than 400 or 60 if you had more. If you participate but do not make the cut, you don't get any Fame.
  • Passing Jounin Exams - this only gives you Fame if you succeed and become a jounin. It gives you 400 Fame if you had less than 1500 or 150 if you had more.If you participate but do not make the cut, you don't get any Fame.
  • Becoming a Kage - this gives you 1000 Fame if you had less than 2500 or 400 if you had more. It only gives you Fame once, so abandoning your post and then re-taking it, or becoming the Kage of another village, does not give you any additional Fame.
  • Participating in Events - if you stand out in times of struggle, you will certainly be noticed. The amount gained through this mean can differ greatly. Note, this does not refer solely to large role-play events held by the staff, but pretty much anything that may affect even a single shinobi village.
  • Doing Something Big - if you are one of the key figures in something that may affect even a single shinobi village, you are certain to be noticed. The amount gained through this mean can differ greatly. Note, this does not refer solely to large role-play events held by the staff, but rather something you or another member start on your own.
