Zephiel reached up for the next hold above him. His hand fumbled around a bit until it found a small ledge then he tighteneed his grip around the rock. Pushing up with his feet and pulling on the ledge at the same time, he hauled himself over the edge of the rock and rolled onto his side. He was panting heavily, unable to force himself to move. His golden eyes were locked on the slowly brightening sky that stretched out in front of him. It was still very early in the morning, and the memory of the chaos that insued the night before was still fresh in his mind. So many people had died, and so much of the city had been wiped out. On the horizon, pillars of smoke could still be seen rising into the sky. The fires from the hospitals were still raging, but the damage had already been done to the village. Zephiel had been too tired at the time to figure out who the blame had been placed upon, but it didn't matter to him. He had no family in Iwa, and he didn't have any friends, yet his home had still been attacked, which made rage well up inside of him. He couldn't sleep, so he went back out to the mountains, which left him where he was now. Rock climbing; It wasn't the safest thing to do alone, but Zephiel's hobby at least helped him calm down.
He let himself regain some of his energy before managing to force himself back up. His eyes scaled up the imposing wall that stood before him. He was already quite high up in the air, but it was nothing compared to the overall height of the mountain. He was confident in his abilities, but the consiquences of falling were much too great, he had to be careful. He quickly scanned the area in front of him for the first hold. Once it was located, he stretched up to grab it and pulled himself higher. He kept staring up, lifting himself higher and higher. The utmost concentration of his task was more than enough to keep the mind occupied, and by the time he was finished, no amount of mental stress would be able to keep him awake. _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Soon enough, Zephiel had traveed another 20 feet up the wall. The rigorous activity was starting to get to him in his sleep deprived state. As he reached up to grab the next ledge, his mind lagged behind his movements, and he grabed the wrong rock by accident. Without realizing his mistake, he started to pull himself up and was reaching for the next hold when the rock under his hand came loose and dislodged itself from the cliff wall. He started to drop, but he reacted to his folley quick enough. He tore a kunai out from under his scarf and drove it into the cliff wall in order to stop his decent. Despite the sudden strain on his muscles, he immediately found a hold with his other hand, securing is place on a large rock that stuck out from the rest of the cliff a few inches.
Realizing how close he had come to plumeting to his doom, Zephiel let out a hard sigh. He looked back up the wall and started for a ledge that was just above. He movement was stopped halfway by a sudden shaking. "Oh Sh-" The rock that he was holding onto fell away from the cliff, leaving behind a shallow hole on the cliff face. He found himself spinning through the air as he was thrown off of the boulder and sent flying away from the cliff. Damn, damn, damn, theres got to be something i can do He spread out his limbs to try to slow his fall as much as possible, as fuetile as it seemed. His eyes widened in terror as the ground below grew closer and closer at an ever increasing rate. He locked his eyes shut and unconsciously started gathering up his chakra. He felt his body jerk suddenly as it decelerated greatly. Did i hit the ground? Am I ...dead? ...no... no way i could have hit already... He opened his eyes to see a green glow surrounding him, spreading out from his back in a thin shapeless mist. What is this? He was still fallling, but at a much more manageable rate, almost as if he were caught by a small parachute. He tilted his body so that he would be pushed back towards the cliff wall as he fell. When he was within arms reach of the cliff, the chakra mist disappated, leaving him to fall once more, but this time, he was close enough to find a grip. The strain on Zephiel's arms was unbearable, tearing at his muscles to the point where he lost his grip, falling 10 more feet to a shelf that was directly below him. Of course it hurt, but it was much better than the alternative result that would have occured if it weren't for the strange chakra. _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Zephiel lay on the cool rock for several minutes, letting his adrenaline subside. His arms and left side hurt tremendously, he might have even broken a rib on landing, but he couldn't tell. The near-death experience had left his body completely numb. He lay still for roughly 15 minutes while his heart rate slowed back down and he regained feeling in his limbs. He forced himself to sit up and lean his back against the cliff. "What the hell was that?... and.. how did i do it?" The only thing he could remember was a build up of a strange chakra in his body, he hadn't done anything special as far as he knew.
"I wonder if I could do it again..." He thought aloud as he checked to see if he had any long-lasting injuries. his ribs appeared to be intact, but then again, he wasn't a medical-nin. Haven given up on climbing for the time being, He found that he really didn't have anything else to do but try to figure out how he had managed to save himself. Without really knowing what to do, Zephiel started building up his chakra as he normally would when trying to use a jutsu. Nothing happened. He tried moving the chakra to various points on his back, but there was still no results. He sighed, letting the back of his head smack up against the cliff wall. Zephiel tried gathering up his chakra again, but still had no luck getting the mist to reappear. He tried to remember exactly what he had done, but he couldn't quite remember. He kept trying to draw his mind back to his fall, but he could only remember how much he was panicing and how he suddenly came to a stop. In his attempts to figure out what had happened, he kept trying to just gather his chakra, but it just wasn't working. Eventually, he gave up trying the same thing over and over again and just let himself sit still for a few more minutes.
An idea suddenly came to him. If he couldn't remember how he had done it, why not recreate the situation that led to the event? He hadn't bothered to check how high up he was, but by estimating the distance he fell, he guessed that if he fell from his current height, it wouldn't be fatal. Without really thinking about it, he rolled over his uninjured side and dropped off the side of the ledge. His momentum rolled him over so that he was again looking down at the ground. He was much higher up than he had thought he was. The stress from the fall must have exagerated just how far down he had gone, and now he was regreting the fact that he hadn't checked. This may be the stupidest idea I've ever had!!
He tried gathering his chakra to his back again, but much like on the ledge, it had no effect. the only difference was that now he had no choice but to keep trying. By the time he reached halfway between his starting point and the ground, he was becoming desperate. He kept pouring more and more chakra into his attempts, expanding what he thought to be his limits of chakra control. But it didn't seem to be enough. He closed his eyes as he had done before and gathered up as much chakra as he could. Without realizing it, he was forcing his chakra to become more focused by putting it all in a single area on his body.
He felt an upward jerk again and opened his eyes to see the greenish glow once again. This time, it seemed to have a more defined shape instead of just being a mist. It was symetrical at least... but other than that, it pretty much was the same. He adjusted his course so that he landed softly on another ledge on the side of the cliff. The second Zephiel touched down, he looked to observe the chakra that errupted from his back. It was still very unstable, but he could definately make out a vague shape. Almost look like wings... or something... He continued to marvel at the strange power than he had been given, but he soon realized that the way he was using it now was much too draining. It didn't take this much out of me the first time... maybe there is a trick to doing it effeciantly... He cut off the flow of chakra to his back and the wispy shapes dispeled into the air around him.
He tried it again, this time not using nearly as much chakra. He thought of the feeling he had right before he had made them appear the last time. Its not that im not using enough chakra... that can't be it... it just keeps burning off if i try to use too much... maybe i just have to shape it... how do i do that though? The academy had taught him how to shape chakra on a basic level, but it was obvious that this required more than that. Using the small amount of chakra that he had focused, he began experimenting. Through a very trying process of trial and error that took several more minutes, Zephiel had slowly come to an understanding of how to compact his chakra, to a degree.
"Alright, lets try this again..." He regathered the chakra that he had been experimenting with and focused it along his back, making it more dense. sure enough, the familiar glow of his chakra formed along his back. Upon closer observation, he noticed that the wispy overflow of chakra had vanished, leaving behind a much more distinguishable shape. The chakra seperated into 4 different strands, 2 coming out of each side of his back. _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Satisfied with the results of his efforts, Zephiel focused some more chakra, feeding it into the mass of energy that spread out from his back. As he did this, he noticed that the shapes became more and more defined. Still experimenting with how to control the chakra, he kept changing how much he put into the technique. As he searched for a balance, the chakra switched between the defined state and the cloud of mist. Eventually, he came upon what he guessed to be a perfect balance of density and quantity of chakra. The strands of chakra became extremely defined, forming clearly into insect-like wings.
Zephiel hopped over the edge of the rock and fell slowly down to another ledge a few meters below him. He had successfully figured out how to form the wings, which seemed to be able to slow his decent, but he wondered if it could be used to do more than just that. Alright, they are deffinately wings.... which means... hmm... I wonder if I could fly? _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Moving the chakra wings was a very odd sensation. It wasn't like trying to shift the shape of the chakra into a new location like Zephiel thought it was going to be. It actually felt like he had a new set of nerves and muscles that he had to figure out how to use. Almost like learning how to walk all over again. the hardest part of it seemed to be getting both sets of wings to move in unison. After a long period of aqward movements in which the wings seemed to be moving in the opposite dirrection that he wanted, he started to get the hang of controling them.
He tried flaping the wings up and down repeatedly, but it just tired him out, not getting any lift what so ever. If that doesn't work... then how about... He crouched down, tensing up the muscles in his legs in preparation to jump. While he did this, he stretched his wings up as high as he could. All at once, he jumped up into the air and swung his wings down as hard as he could. The combined force propeled him high up into the air. He had jumped much higher than he had ever done before, but we wasn't done yet. At the top of his leap, he started flapping his wings in an effort to stay afloat. Moving the wings against the air resistance proved much different than just moving them while he was standing still. His strange movements didn't help him much and he decided to stop before he knocked himself away from the cliff. He stretched his wings out and once again found himself slowly floating back down to his ledge. Almost there.... _________________ Beware the messenger of death

After several more failed attempts, it became obvious that the curent dimentions of the wings could not keep him afloat. Zephiel messed around a bit with the concentration of the chakra, changing the shape of the wings until they nearly doubled in length and grew slightly wider. That should about do it... The new wings had a span of about 5 feet and were almost a foot wide, the smaller pair were 4 feet long and only slightly thinner. He started flapping the wings again, this time he could actually feel himself being lifted up slightly, though he didn't quite leave the ground.
Zephiel jumped up into the air again and tried flying from that approach once more. The larger wings made it easier to keep afloat, and after a few more tries, he got used to moving them against the air resistance. Although it was tiring using the new set of muscles, he had actually managed to hover in the air rather than just falling slowly. He tried moving the wings more vigorously, and sure enough, he began rising in up higher. Several more pumps got him back up to the ledge that he had jumped off of a few minutes before. His feet touched down on the rock and a wide grin crossed his face. I did it. He reached down for his wolf pendant and clutched it in his hand. As he did so, he could almost feel a strange energy pouring out of it and into his wings. through the corner of his eyes, he could see the shape of the wings strengthening, almost as if they had become completely solid. He let go of the pendant and they returned to thier normal state. How interesting... I think I'm ready... _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Zephiel despelled his wings, watching as the remaining chakra slowly disipated into the air around him. Lets see if i can do this... He went through the steps again, building up his chakra and focusing it to his back. He kept the chakra level the same as it had been when he despelled the wings, and sure enough, they reformed exactly as they had been before. Zephiel's grin widened. He grabbed the pendant, and the Wings grew stronger again. He walked to the edge of the cliff and let himself slowly fall forward, diving downward toward the earth. After falling several meters, he arced his body up, gliding through the air on his chakra wings. He tried doing a few stunts, arcing around in circles and suddenly changing direction, but eventually the pain in his side forced him to start making his way back to solid ground.
Zephiel flew down at a steady rate until he was only a few feet above the ground. He spread his wings out wide and flapped hard, stopping his downward motion all togather. He floated there for a few seconds before letting himself drop the remaining distance to the ground. He let his wings go to a resting position and they folded over top of each other on his back. The rush of figuring out how to form the wings and fly had made the thoughts of the attack on Iwa completely leave his mind. Though now that he was back on solid ground, he began to realize just how tired he was. Without bothering look around himself at all, Zephiel just let himself fall forward onto the ground infront of him. He rolled onto his uninjured side and let himself finally relax. With the pendant still in his hand and his wings still folded against his back, he was almost immediately lulled to sleep by the cool softness of the grass under him. _________________ Beware the messenger of death

Description: This is a speed technique, which has two uses. It's primary use is a sudden burst of speed used to travel a few feet in any direction. It takes chakra but can be used alot. However, if you use it too many times without a break your physical stamina will wear down faster. It's second use may only be used as a Chuunin or higher. It utilizes handseals and more chakra to enable you to travel greater distances, much like Shunshin. This is only far enough to carry you out of a battle and shouldn't be used to travel long distances (unless you have a large amount of stamina and chakra, and don't intend on fighting that day).

Zephiel rolled over in his sleep, trying to get into a more comfortable possition. The movement resulted in a sharp pain as he put weight on his ribcage. His eyes flung open and he let out a low groan before moving back to the way he was laying before. It was dark, and a dim green light illuminated the area around him. How long was I out? ... Its night already... He forced himself up and looked at the source of the glow. Remembering what he had been doing before he collapsed, he grinned at the sight of his wings. He still wasn't sure how he had been able to create them, but he didn't much care. For all he knew, he had the power to do something that no other shinobi around him could do. This thought alone was enough to make him ever the more curious about the ability.
Using his wings to push himself up off the ground a few feet, Zephiel stood back up. What if I were to use this chakra in other ways... Returning to his experimentations, He focused his chakra to his legs and feet, not realizing that he was still holding his pendant. As he took a step forward, the chakra propeeled his movements forward, moving him instantainiously to a spot 10 meters away. As he came to a stop, Zephiel fell forward onto his stomach, overcome by his inertia.
